School and college visits

More than 8,000 students from schools and colleges have visited The Hive since it opened in 2012.

Schools and colleges visit to take part in curriculum focused activities and workshops that we run as well as having a tour of the building and learning how to use the library through our information sessions.

The Hive offers a range of school and college visit packages which are suitable for a whole class of children, or home educated groups, as young 5 years up to secondary and sixth form students:designed to take learning out of the classroom; encouraging inquiry and independent learning; and promoting the value and fun of reading.

The packages are summarised below.

Package 1 is free and includes a library tour and other activities as listed below and Package 2 is a choice of Explore the Past workshops delivered by Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, awarded Learning Outside the Classroom status in 2012. There is a charge for the workshops in Package 2. Find our more information about activities included in Package 2.       

Please note our list below is not exhaustive, as we are happy to discuss and build tailor-made packages themed to fit in with work you are currently doing at school or National Initiatives in which we participate e.g. Science Week, World Book Day, Time to Read, Summer Reading Challenge.

  • Using journals
  • Evaluating information for academic study
  • Referencing top tips (for all referencing systems)
  • Introduction to Harvard Referencing
  • Spotting fake news
