Joining the library
Children and students who are not already library members can join when they take part in a school or college visit and borrow books during their visit to take home with them
For full membership children less than 16 years of age need an adult guarantor to sign for the card, the adult also has to give permission if their child wants to use computers while they are in the library. The library card is valid in all Worcestershire public libraries, so any books borrowed from The Hive can be returned to their nearest Worcestershire library.
If you wish to take advantage of automatic library membership, you can do so by providing a full list of first names, surnames and Date of Birth for the students visiting.
If you are not able to get permission from parents/guardians in advance, students age 8 plus may still join as instant members to enable them to borrow on the day. This entitles them to borrow up to two books without having to provide a signature from a parent or guarantor. Each child will be provided with a letter to take home explaining that their instant membership (aged 8 to 16) can be upgraded to full membership by visiting the library with a parent or guardian with a form of identification showing their name and address. For those aged 16 plus to upgrade, they would need to visit with their own proof of identity.
