A Hive of Activity This Christmas

The Hive’s fun family Christmas parade is returning next month with live music and novelty large lanterns to put people in the festive spirit.

The Lantern Parade will commence at 6pm on Thursday, 6th December from the Worcester Cathedral Square, where Severn Arts Wind Ensembles will be playing festive music from 5.30pm before the parade makes its journey to The Hive for more live Christmas music from Rock Choir.

The annual event has grown in popularity since it first began in December 2012 and has become a big calendar occasion for Worcestershire residents.

Families are encouraged to attend lantern-making workshops for children to create their own cheerful lights to bring to the parade. The workshops start on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November, and Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December at 11am and 1.30pm at The Hive. Children can choose from making large handmade willow lanterns at £4.50 or small pre-made lanterns for £2.50.

Janine Downes, library manager at The Hive, said: “The parade is a fantastic family event and really gets everyone in the mood for Christmas. It’s great to see all of the children with their decorated lanterns enjoying the music and the lights as we walk through the City to The Hive.”

The iconic library will also set the festive scene with regular storytelling from a variety of Christmas themed books from Sunday, 25th November at 11am and 2.45pm. These ‘Rat-a-tat Tales’ will take place every weekend leading up to Christmas.

On Saturday 8th December, The Hive has a full day of activities with a free Willow Wreath Making Craft Activity from 11am to 3pm for children aged 6 to 12 years. Rat-a-tat Tales, and two performances from Topsy Turvy Theatre company with Christopher’s Christmas at 11.30am and 2pm. Tickets for the show cost £7 for adults and £3 for children.

Christmas crafts continue through December with pre-schooler fun on Thursday 6th and 22nd December at 10.30am – 12pm at The Hive with Christmas themed sessions by Young at Art for the under 5’s.
