Christmas Celebrations at the Hive

The Hive has a weekend of Christmas celebrations on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 December, starting with a Christmas Lantern Parade on the Friday evening.

Christmas lantern workshops are taking place on Saturday 22 and 29 November for children to make their own personal lantern for the Christmas Parade. The festive event takes place outside The Hive on Friday 5 December at 6pm with children leading the lantern parade into the building for carols by the tree.

The lantern making workshops cost £2.50 per child and are drop-in sessions with no booking necessary.

On Saturday 6 December The Hive will host ‘Under the Stars’; a multisensory play full of adventure and enchantment that takes you on a magical journey into the world of The Arabian Nights.

The Studio at The Hive will be transformed into a beautiful tent under a starlit sky where you can join Queen Scheherazade as she spins stories and tells tales to entertain the King. Performances are at 12pm and 3pm.

‘Under the Stars’ is suitable for ages four and above. Tickets can be purchased from Level 1, Information Pod at The Hive. Tickets cost £5 and children under two go free.

Contemporary band Clik Clik Collective will perform live Christmas carols with a modern twist outside The Hive on Saturday 6 December from 1 to 2.45pm.

Victorian Christmas decoration making will take place in the children's library with the Explore the Past team on Saturday 6 December. This event is free to attend, is suitable for ages four and over and is taking place throughout the day at The Hive.

Later in the month The Hive library staff are running Christmas gift making workshops using plant bulbs on Monday 22 December from 10am to 5pm. The workshops are suitable for children aged four and above and cost £1.

Laura Worsfold, Business Development Manager at The Hive, said: “This is the second Hive Christmas lantern parade and we would love to see even more children and families taking part this year. Our aim here is to compliment the many Christmas events and activities taking place during the festive period and we hope you will find something to enjoy over this advent weekend."
