Local Poets Join in the Buzz

Worcestershire poets Ruth Stacey and Sarah James will be headlining next week in the second of the poetry events, ‘Poetry and Pollination’, held at The Hive.

It is part of a vibrant series being hosted in a partnership between the University of Worcester Institute of Humanities and Creative Arts, Worcestershire Literature and Fringe Festival, Ledbury Poetry Festival and The Hive.

Ruth Stacey, headlining poet and Worcestershire Literature and Fringe Festival organiser, said: “The Hive made us think of the theme ‘poetry and pollination’ because the evening is about transferring poems from one person to another.

“For this event we have given local poets the opportunity to join Sarah and myself and book a five minute guest slot to read their poetry on the night. It has been very popular and we have a great line-up of 10 poets. It will be an excellent chance to hear lots of different poetic voices who each have their own distinctive style.”

On Thursday 5 June, Britain’s first female poet laureate and mesmerising performer, Carol Ann Duffy, will read from her recent collections including, aptly, The Bees and will be joined by multi-talented musician, John Sampson.

Tickets for ‘Poetry and Pollination’ on 9 May at 7.30pm are £5 and can be purchased in person at The Hive Level 1 Information Desk, on the door at the event, and at the University of Worcester Arena reception or by phone on 01905 54 44 44. (Tickets for Carol Ann Duffy on 5 June have now sold out.)
